To be anticipated! Triceratops horridus: this giant herbivore is an icon of the dinosaur era. It is also extremely rare; only a handful of skeletons can be seen worldwide. Until now! Naturalis is working on a blockbuster exhibition on Triceratops, featuring an entire herd. After more than a decade of excavation and preparation, the dinosaurs will be exhibited together for the first time from Thursday October 17, 2024.
Our experts make it possible
Since 2013, Naturalis has been working on a remarkable discovery. Our experts have found fossils of no less than five individuals of the world-famous dinosaur species Triceratops horridus in Wyoming (USA). They are the driving force behind every step, from discovery to presentation, and bring the richness of biodiversity to life in a unique way
Triceratopson tour
Ahead of the temporary exhibition, our Triceratops will tour the country. They will be on display separately in five cities this summer.
One of the members of the herd will come to you!
Thanks to a special collaboration between the public libraries and natural history museums in Leeuwarden, Haarlem, Delft, Tilburg and Maastricht, a member of the Triceratops herd will come to you this summer! This way, we can bring even more people into contact with reading, research and natural history.
Triceratopsthe herd of Naturalis
An exceptional find
In 2013, a team of experts from Naturalis stumbled upon a unique find in Wyoming, USA. Over several expeditions to the site, the researchers uncovered hundreds of fossilised bones and bone fragments of the world-famous dinosaur species Triceratops horridus, all at a single location. It turned out to be five individuals – a herd! Such a large and significant find is unprecedented worldwide.
