As a retired ecologist, living in Alphen a/d Rijn, I was looking for a place where I could do something with my experience and knowledge. Naturalis is nearby and offered the opportunity to become a guest researcher for about 8 hours a week. Green roofs is my main field of research. I am curious if it is possible to improve the quality of extensive green roofs for pollinators by adding (seeds of a selection of) attractive flowers. In may 2021 I have set up a test roof on my garage.
Apart from this “job”, I am involved in a community garden in my neighbourhood and in nature management of a small terrain in Alphen a/d Rijn.
I studied Biology (major: ecology) at the VU, Amsterdam (1970-1979). The alternative military service at an environmental federation turned out to be a good basis for a job at the Province of South-Holland. 20 years later I switched to Vogelbescherming Nederland (Birdlife the Netherlands) and the last ten years (2008-2018) I worked at the city of Utrecht as an urban ecologist.
