Jacqueline Henrot looking for bankside plants.

After 30 years outside Europe (1984-2014) I am based in the Netherlands and working on monitoring and managing biodiversity in urban and peri-urban areas, in particular on monitoring vegetation quality along waterways through Citizen Science:   www.mijnoeverplanten.nl !

Keywords

Riparian plants, ecology, biodiversity monitoring, citizen science.

Expertise: Tropical rainforest ecology, desert ecology, nature conservation, botanical baselines for environmental impact assessments, plant conservation and plant red lists, herbarium curation and herbarium databases, flora of the Sultanate of Oman, tropical agricultural systems, radioactive waste.

Monitoring riparian vegetation quality through Citizen Science.

'OEVERPLANTEN'is a Citizen Science reserach to map the quality of the bankside vegetation.

The objectives are:

  • To collect data on the quality of the bankside vegetation so that it is freely available for research, education, monitoring, policy and advice.
  • To let fellow researchers discover the biodiversity of the bank zone, to understand it better and to experience it differently.

Article on the project 'Oeverplanten' (in Dutch). Trouw 14 juli 2021: 'This biologist wants to know what grows along the ditch bank, and you can help her'

The research into ditch vegetation is still in its early stages and the amount of data on it is small. Biologist Jacqueline Henrot wants to change that, and she can certainly use the public's help.
