Working at the intersection of biodiversity and society provides me with the great privilege to use science to advocate for nature. Here at Naturalis, I work on a team that measures companies’ impacts and dependencies on nature to showcase the great value in biodiversity.

Background
My past work and research was focused on increasing the sustainability of the agricultural sector. Currently, just under half of habitable land on earth is used for agricultural production, making it a critical opportunity area for habitat restoration.
My motivation to work in this field was inspired by my time spent several years ago on a small ecological farm in the Midwest US where I saw first-hand the benefits of incorporating nature back into our food systems. Following that, I pursued my Masters in Horticulture, where I researched pollinator group visitation to strips of flowers adjacent to agricultural land and later went on to work in the nonprofit sector.
Currenttopics
I am currently working alongside a team to measure companies' impacts and dependencies on nature through geospatial analysis in an industry-specific context. Our work is spurred by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and European Green Deal which will soon (2024) mandate certain businesses to publicly report their impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems. In doing so, we seek to highlight just how integral biodiversity is to society.
