Ever since I was little I’ve had a keen interest in plants, even before I could read I wanted to know the names of all the flowers I saw around me. At the age of nine I knew I wanted to become a botanist. With this focus I studied Biology at Leiden University, persuing a career in plant taxonomy. I want to produce userfriendly identification keys, floras and field guides, thereby enabling professionals as well as the layman to correctly identify the plants that they held in their hands.

Researchinterest
My main interest is in plant taxonomy: produce revisions and (contributions to) floras, based on both morphological and molecular characteristics.
More specifically, I am interested in the vascular plant flora of the Netherlands, to produce an update of the standard flora Heukels’ Flora van Nederland. Besides, I have a special interest in several monocot groups of SE Asia (as Honorary staff member): Poaceae, in particular of Peninsular Malaysia; Commelinaceae, especially Amischotolype; to a lesser extent Cyperaceae. Finally, as Q-bank curator for the Consortium invasive plant species, I am interested in invasion biology and risk assessments.
